Add Color to the Holidays at These Hudson Valley Art Shows

Local galleries spotlight affordable art and regional creators just in time for the gifting season.

BY SABRINA SUCATO

This December, it’s the most colorful, ahem, wonderful time of the year in the Hudson Valley. Although, if we get down to it, colorful isn’t far off the mark. Between sparkling light shows, vibrant holiday markets, and gilded home decor, holiday hues define winter in the region.

Of course, nowhere does seasonal shades better than the Valley’s many art galleries. During the countdown to the winter festivities, local galleries shine their spotlight on the area’s talented creatives and makers during neighborhood showings that are just as perfect for weekend to-dos as they are for gifting inspiration.

Take a peek at the Valley’s artsy rundown, then get to shopping and viewing all month long.

Autumn Matrix

Perhaps . . .

In the moment of perception, elements of the perceiving

self and perceived world transmigrate, blend.

• • •

Within these deep encounters, the coherent unitary identity

of beings-in-the-world can emerge.

• • •

Wilderness, solitude, silence offer opportunities to

experience such moments, as do contemplating,

and creating, works of art.

My work is a finger pointing to spaces where the near-incessant

internal and external clatter of contemporary life subside into a pure,

relaxed concentration. In these spaces, undisturbed, we may return to

ourselves and to a recognition of the profound mystery of existence.

–Tom McKeveny
